About the event

Join us for a 3-day backcountry adventure in the Eastern Sierra Nevada, exploring the stunning Big Pine Lakes basin. This is one of California’s most iconic alpine landscapes. This unforgettable trek leads us through high-elevation terrain dotted with turquoise glacial lakes, dramatic granite peaks, and sweeping views of the Palisades. Expect challenging but rewarding miles, steady elevation gain, and jaw-dropping scenery at every turn. Our days are balanced with intentional pacing, remote alpine camps, crisp mountain air, and unforgettable sunrises and sunsets reflecting off crystal-clear lakes.

  • Hikers with previous backpacking experience

  • Those looking for a challenging, high-elevation trek

ITINERARY

  • Day 1: We will meet up at a designated carpool/caravan spot and make our way up to Big Pine, CA. Once we get to the Big Pine Creek North Fork trailhead, we will begin our ascent into the Eastern Sierra. The trail climbs steadily through pine forest and alpine terrain, with views opening up to rugged granite walls and high peaks as we gain elevation. We will be setting up camp at Big Pine Lake 2 and enjoy our first evening surrounded by turquoise water and towering Sierra granite.

  • Day 2: On this day, we will be making our way to Big Pine Lake 5. Expect an easier day to fully explore the other glacial lakes in the area and take in the scenery.

  • Day 3: Break camp and begin our descent back down by passing by the last lake of our (9) nine glacier lake exploration. Once we get to the trailhead, we will make our long drive back to Los Angeles.

A pre-trip virtual Zoom session will be held to review logistics, trail conditions, permits, gear, food planning, and to answer any questions to ensure everyone feels confident and prepared.
